Organic agave syrup, also known as agave nectar, is a natural sweetener for tea, salads and baking. It’s become famous as a low-glycaemic alternative to sugar.
This agave syrup is extracted from wild Mexican agave plants. Agave plants are large succulents, and they store sweet sap in their ‘hearts’ at the base of the plant. The syrup is extracted from this sap and is approximately 90% natural fructose. It’s sweeter than everyday granulated sugar, which means you can use less of it in your cooking. As a general guide, use 25% less agave syrup than you would regular sugar in a recipe.
Use organic agave syrup in cocktails and to add sweetness to fruit compotes. Even stir into porridge or use in a glaze for grilled or roasted meat and vegetables.
